Clear Lake

Possibly the oldest lake in North America, Clear Lake has been in existence, in some form, for at least 450,000 years. Over 100 miles of shoreline makes it the largest natural lake entirely in California. The Clear Lake Basin is the home to abundant wildlife populations of ducks, pelicans, grebes, blue herons, egrets, and osprey and winter populations of deer, bear, mountain lion, raccoon and other animals. The lake supports crappie, blue gill, catfish and hitch as well as a trophy black bass fishery.

The many small communities around the county provide accommodations as well as a wide variety of activities for the whole family;  concerts, waterslides, antique shops, festivals, art galleries, Indian gaming, wineries and museums.  There are many small shops providing imaginative souvenir items as well as products made from local orchards and vineyards.
